COMTA Accreditation: What's in it for you?

Picture
The Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA) recommends that  prospective students verify that the school in which they are interested is accredited or endorsed by COMTA.

This is because upon graduation from a massage therapy program, every massage therapist should understand a certain body of knowledge and possess a specific skill set to be competent and successful.  COMTA has listed and defined this knowledge and skill set as the COMTA Curriculum Competencies.

Schools or programs that COMTA endorsed or accredited have demonstrated how these competencies are being taught and assessed.  By teaching COMTA competencies, schools ensure that their student graduate with the following competencies:
  • ability to plan and organize an effective massage and bodywork session
  • ability to perform massage therapy and bodywork for therapeutic benefit
  • ability to develop and implement a self-care strategy
  • ability to develop a strategy for successful practice, business, or employment situation
  • ability to identify strategies for professional development

The New School for Massage was the first school in the United States to receive the Endorsed Curriculum recognition by the Commission for Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA).   The school received its institutional accreditation by COMTA in 2021
